Civil litigation refers to any legal case in which one of both of the parties seek a remedy, such as money damages or specific performance, as opposed to a criminal action in which a lawyer representing the government seeks punishment.
Civil litigation encompasses numerous areas of law including business disputes, employment litigation, insurance law, real estate proceedings and personal injury.
